Sports Injuries

Acute and overuse injuries from training and competition. Assessment, treatment, and return-to-sport progression in one place.

What counts as a sports injury

Anything that happens because of training or competition: a torn muscle from a sprint, a sprained ankle landing wrong, an Achilles that started complaining ten kilometres into the long run. Sports injuries split broadly into:

  • Acute injuries: sudden onset with a clear mechanism (sprain, strain, tear, fracture, dislocation).
  • Overuse injuries: gradual onset from accumulated load exceeding tissue tolerance (tendinopathies, stress reactions, repetitive strain).

How we treat them

For acute injuries, the early days focus on protecting the tissue and keeping pain manageable while inflammation runs its course. From there, progressive loading and movement work rebuild strength and confidence.

For overuse injuries, the work is finding the loading pattern that drove the tissue past its limit and rebuilding from there with a progression the tissue can keep up with.

In both cases, we set return-to-sport milestones so you know when each next stage of activity is safe.

Insurance

Sports injuries from work-related activity may be covered by CNESST; injuries from motor-vehicle accidents during sport (e.g. cycling) by SAAQ. We bill both directly.
